Environmental Reality for George Dubya Bush

George Dubya Bush isn’t a Liar, with a capital “L,” like, say, Dick Cheney, Condalezza Rice, Karl Rove, Paul Wolfowitz and so many of the neo-conservatives.  Rather, he lets the Liars tell him what the truth is, or what the reality is, and then he incorporates them.  And once incorporated, then they’re Truth and Reality, so he—Dubya—isn’t lying.  It is convenient.

In terms of environmental issues, the Dubya Administration’s Reality—even more unreal than its Iraq Reality—and the still-widespread ignorance in the U. S. about the subject, allows it consistently to distort and block environmentally benign legislation.  Scientists in the governmental institutions the Administration’s policies affect, including NASA, the EPA, the FDA, and others, consistently and overwhelmingly report that meddling by, and even direct instruction from, non-scientific personnel in the Administration distorts the work, the reports and policies, of those institutions.

Now, in the waning days of his (mal) administration, the cynicism of the Bushies is something to behold.  Rule after rule of federal regulations have quietly—surreptitiously might be a better word—been rewritten so as to reward industries who have contributed so handsomely to Republican causes.  Mining and energy companies are benefiting from rule changes which the Obama administration will have to work hard to undo.  Environmentalists are, not surprisingly, outraged.

What else would you expect from the worst president the U. S. has ever had?

George Dubya Bush não é um Mentiroso, com “M" maiúsculo, como, digamos, Dick Cheney, Condalezza Rice, Karl Rove, Paul Wolfowitz e tantos dos neo-conservadores.  Em vez disso, permite que os Mentirosos o digam o que é a verdade, ou o que é a realidade, e então ele as incorpora.  E uma vez incorporadas, então elas são Verdade e Realidade, para que ele—Duyba—não esteja mentindo.  Realmente é conveniente.

Em termos de questões ambientais, a Realidade do Governo Dubya—até mais irreal que sua Realidade de Iraque—e a ainda ampla ignorância nos EUA sobre o assunto, permite que consistentemente distorce e bloqueie legislação ambientalmente benigna.  Cientistas nas instituições governamentais afetadas pelas políticas da Administração Dubya, incluindo NASA, a EPA, a FDA, e outras, consistente macicamente reportam que mexidas por, e até instruções diretas de, pessoal não científica no Governo distorce o trabalho, os relatórios e as políticas, dessas instituições.

Agora, nos últimos dias da sua (mal) administração, o cinismo dos Bushies é algo a ser visito.  Regra após regra de regulamentações federais têm sido quietamente—escondidamente poderá ser uma palavra melhor—reescritas para premiar indústrias que contribuíram de forma tão bonita a causas do Partido Republicano.  Companhias de mineração e energia estão sendo beneficiadas com alterações de regras que a Administração Obama terá que trabalhar para desfazer.  Ambientalistas estão, não é surpresa, enfurecidos.

Esperaria o quê do pior presidente que os EUA jamais tiveram?
